Finland Women Win European Bronze in Athens After 32 Years

Finland defeated Denmark 4–3 in a penalty contest to win bronze at the 2025 European Underwater Rugby Championship, securing its first major women’s medal since 1993.

Finland’s women’s national team finished third at the CMAS European Underwater Rugby Championship in Athens. It was the team’s first major championship medal since 1993.

The bronze-medal match against Denmark remained level through regulation time and overtime. Finland created several dangerous opportunities during the second half and overtime.

Mari Pesola scored in the fifth round of the penalty contest before captain Heli Koskinen stopped Denmark’s final attempt. Finland secured the bronze medal with a 4–3 result.

Germany finished first in the women’s tournament, followed by Norway, Finland and Denmark.
